The Female Attraction to Gay Men

Why do popular women’s movies and TV shows appear to idolise the gay male friend?  Hit television shows such as ‘Sex and the City’ appear to suggest that no female friendship circle is complete without a token gay male.  Are we reading too much into this phenomenon or is there some truth embedded in this phenomenon.  What is it about gay men that makes them attractive to women?

As a young city woman I find myself surrounded with a number of gay male friends.  The attraction to these guys does concur largely with the mass media stereotype.  I think as women we do love the stylish, supportive character to is not afraid to add in a little sarcasm at times without fear of offending.  They are also largely good looking, loyal listeners who can be relied upon in a time of need.  Can straight men learn some relationship lessons from their not-so-straight counterparts?  I believe the answer is “Yes”.

Style
It is common knowledge that if you want advice on clothing, or your appearance, ask a gay man.  Just look at the top designers in the world of fashion.  So how can you tell if you have style or not?  Ask yourself- “When was the last time someone complimented me on my appearance?”  If this has never happened to you or it occurs less than once a week it’s time for a wardrobe makeover.

Sensitivity
Medical research has shown that the gay male brain and the heterosexual female brain are extremely similar.  The use of certain regions of the brain and the connections between the two hemispheres are near identical.  This makes gay men think and react to emotional situations in a similar way and that is potentially the reason why gay men so easily attract women.  Although you can’t restructure your brain, try to communicate on an emotional level.  Think and talk about her feelings in a sensitive and empathic way.

Faithfulness
Women never need to fear losing their gay friend to another woman.  Make sure you keep your wandering eyes off other women.  If you need to perve, do it with your mates.  Nothing distresses a woman more than to think she is being cheated on.

Physical fitness
Whilst it is a bit of a stereotype, gay men tend to have bodies that are in better shape than their heterosexual counterparts.  Women are attracted to a well formed male physique.  If you think you are looking a bit flabby, its time to do your relationship a favour.  Cut down on the beer and fries and start racking up the k’s on the treadmill.  Why not hit the gym with your partner.

Fun
Whilst largely a generalisation, gay males seem to be more fun to be around.  Most straight men are too scared to do things like get up on the dance floor when their favourite song comes on.  Let go of your inhibitions and relax a little.  It will make you appear much more attractive.
