Timing: Getting your timing right in every part of dating a girl is never more important than when asking a girl out. Try not to ask a girl out when she is preoccupied or busy with something – you are seriously reducing your chances. Ask her when she is happy, and free. A good time would be when you’ve just told a good joke, or when you both have had a laugh at something. Studies show that a persons mind is far more receptive to suggestion when they have just had a laugh. Use this fact to your advantage.

Preparation: Some guys go to huge lengths to prepare for asking a girl out. Unforutunately this isn’t the best thing to do in the long term. Sure there may be a few couples out there with romantic stories of how they met, or how a girl was asked out – but I know that they are just one in a thousand. If you follow this thought, you will be so scared and pressured when asking a girl out, that she will think you are crazy! Don’t ask her out with sky writing or on the megascreen at the superbowl – save those for later!

What to say: So what should you say when asking a girl out on a date? Of course, as I link to in many of my other articles, being confident is the key. You do not need to have a silver tongue to ask a girl out on a date. Make sure that you don’t stutter, and that you can ask her out with confidence and that will make you 50% more successful for a start. Tell yourself that she is lucky to be asked out by someone like you. This will flow on to the way you ask her out.

Dealing with rejection: I’ve already touched on this in previous articles, but keep in mind that you will NEVER have a 100% record. You will never even have 50%. If you got a date 25% of the time you asked a girl out, you are already doing well. Keep that in mind for later down the track, as you can never let a rejection put you down. Some of the most successful guys are the ones that just keep trying and trying. And never back down to a different standard to what you’re looking for. ie: Just because you didn’t get the 9/10 stunner at the bar doesn’t mean you have to have 10 drinks and pick up the 3/10 she-male standing next to her at 5am in the morning. Keep you head up.

OK, so you’re probably wondering why I haven’t given you some lines or some ideas of how to pick up, but that’s the point. Asking a girl out on a date shouldn’t be about fancy lines and locations. Its all about your attitute, and mental preparation. A girl will say YES if you project to her that you are worth going out with.

Have you ever observed that the really hot women never seem to gravitate to the “nice” guys? Of course you have. Just like I have, I’m sure you’ve had hot female friends that always seemed to date “jerks”… but for some reason they were never romantically interested in YOU. What’s going on here? I understand that this seems counter-intuitive and might be hard to accept, but seriously – LISTEN TO ME! Until you accept this as a reality and start acting on it, you’ll never be the Don Juan with women you wanted to be.

Have a think about situations where you’ve heard or seen a guy that REALLY likes a woman. And you can see that she’s just not interested. What do they do? They try to convince the women and change their mind. Well, here’s the secret – You can NEVER change how a women FEELS when it boils down to attraction. Absolutely NEVER. Its impossible to convince a women to feel differently using your well honed logic and reasoning skills. Feelings are never logical, and your arguments will fall by the roadside. But unfortunately, we all do it. This is a situation, where unfortunately it won’t work. When you know you’re beaten, move on – don’t waste anymore time. Trying to wear a woman down will be unsatisfying for both parties.

In our quest to please women (which we wrongly think will make them like us), us men are always doing things to get a woman’s “approval” or “permission”. Another TERRIBLE idea. Women are NEVER attracted to the types of guys who kiss up to them… EVER. Don’t misunderstand me here. You shouldn’t treat a woman POORLY (ie treat them mean keep them keen) to make her like you. But if you believe that treating a woman well means “always getting her approval and permission for things”, think again. Women actually get PISSED OFF at men who seek their approval. Its another of these dominance things. Don’t believe me? Just ask any attractive woman if soft guys who chase them around and want their approval are sexy…

So many times have men taken their dates out for a nice dinner, bought them jelly beans and given her flowers at the door, only to have them REJECT them for someone who in their eyes treat them far worse. If you’re like me, then you’ve had it happen a LOT. Well guess what? It’s only HUMAN NATURE when this happens…That’s right, I said HUMAN NATURE. When you do these things, you send a clear signal: “I don’t think you’ll like me for who I am, so I’m going to try to buy your attention and affection”. Your good intentions usually come across to women as over-compensation for insecurity, and weak attempts at manipulation. That’s right, I said that women see this as MANIPULATION.

Men should never share how they “feel” too early in the relationship. Although there are meny attractive women, each of them would get approached many times a day, and receive LOTS of attention from men. A hot woman probably gets approached SEVERAL TIMES A DAY by men who are interested. This translates into multiple times per week, and often HUNDREDS of times per month. And guess what? Attractive women have usually dated a LOT of men. That’s right. They have EXPERIENCE. They know what to expect. And there is one thing that really turns hot women off and sends her running away faster than just about anything is a guy who starts saying “You know, I really, REALLY like you” after one or two dates. This signals to the woman that you’re just like all the other guys who fall for her too fast… and can’t control themselves. Don’t do it. Sit back. Relax. There’s a much better way…

Women and men have very different factors when it comes to deciding ATTRACTION. You will need to accept this before you move on. Deal with it. When a man sees a sexy women, there is an immediate sexual attraction. But is this the same for women? OF COURSE NOT! After studying this topic for quite some time now, I can tell you that women usually have their “attraction mechanisms” triggered by things OTHER than looks. How many times have you seen attractive women with average or unattractive men? Now think of the times you’ve seen this the other way around. Now I’m going to blow you away…A woman will ALWAYS know what you’re thinking. Women are about EIGHT TIMES better than men at reading body language. That’s eight TIMES. I know, it might be difficult to comprehend. Take this example: if you’re on a date with a woman, and you are thinking of kissing her, she will knows. And if you don’t know exactly what to do and exactly HOW to kiss her, and you just sit there looking at her and getting all nervous, she won’t help! She will LET you squirm. And this goes for ALL aspects of women and dating…Approaching a woman, getting her digits, asking her to dinner, kissing her, getting to 3rd base… everything. If you don’t know what to do in each situation, you will probably stuff it up… and LOSE THE GAME. And you KNOW this. It is VERY important that you know EXACTLY how to go from one step to the next with a beautiful girl… from the first meeting, all the way to the boudoir.

This is the mistake that keeps us guys from EVER having the kind of success with women that they truly want. I know, men don’t like to make themselves look like we don’t have all the answers. We don’t want to ask for help. Hey, I’ve been right there myself. Let me tell you a little about me and how I figured out how to be successful with women…About eight years ago I became sick of the fact that I didn’t really know how to approach, meet, and obtain dates with women that I was attracted to. It frustrated the hell out of me. One night I was out with my friend, and I saw a beautiful woman I wanted to ask to dinner, but I just couldn’t get up the courage to do it. I can still remember that night clearly because it changed my world… right at that instance I made the decision to do whatever it took to learn how to be successful with women and dating. Well, after lots of hard work, studying, reading and trying all kinds of silly things, I finally figured it all out. I can now approach just about any woman and get her number almost instantly. I’ve dated bikini models, I’ve dated actresses, and I’ve dated nice, normal, regular next door type of girls as well. It has been a very rewarding experience. I no longer feel that sick, insecure feeling… like I don’t know how to meet women… and I might wind up alone. I know that anytime, anywhere, I can go out and meet attractive women.

How To Deal With Rejection

Dear Harry,

I met this girl who I really liked. We met last summer at a hip hop dance class, and we seemed to have hit if off really well. We would always pair up during class and she even once invited me out to a party with some of her other friends after dance class.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I plucked up the courage, and asked her to dinner at my house. I had already made the menu and bought some new flowers, and I knew she wasn’t busy because she told me a few weeks back that this was her weekend to herself where she had nothing planned. When I asked her, she just said “No – sorry, I can’t do it this weekend” but then made no suggestion that we could take a raincheck.

What do you think? I put all my eggs in this basket, and when I went home, I felt really upset as I had to waste the food, and I don’t even really like flowers.

We all Crash and Burn

Dear Jay,

Dealing with rejection is paramount to our success. How often do formula 1 drivers try to reach that podium. How often does a MotoGP rider crash and burn before turning into Rossi or Stoner? If you can’t deal with rejection, you can never date beautiful women. Onto your letter:

There are some alarm bells in my head that go off when I was reading your article. The first thing you must realise is that there are many girls out there, and that you don’t need to feel bad when asking one girl out goes wrong. Putting all your eggs in this basket, as you say, is completely what I teach against. If you continue to do this, you will come across as desperate or too eager, and will chase girls away. Remember my article on confidence. By focussing all your attention on one girl, you will definitely come across as desperate. Desperate guys do NOT get girls. Spread the love, Jay, spread the love. I have a rule of always having 3 options at any 1 time. Now, although you may like one of them more than the others, you will always have 3 options that you will want to at least pursue. Sure, this girl you met at dance class may seem like the perfect bearer of your children, but you are in fact, shooting yourself in the foot. By coming across as she is the lucky one to be coming to dinner with you, you might just find that she will be more receptive. Instead of just asking a girl out to have dinner at your place say something a little cocky like: “Hey, if you’re not doing anything this Saturday, you can make me dinner – my stove broke down, and I lost my masterchef recipes”…

Your letter also suggests that you already put your heart into this girl before things ever began. Being severely heart broken without even lifting off the ground is a recipe for disaster. Keep things in perspective, and try not to read too much into things.

You are correct in thinking that she isn’t that interested. If she were, she would have made plans for some other time. But remember, she already told you that she was going to have a weekend to herself. Even so, if she really thought of you in that way, then she would have made alternative plans to see you.

Jay, it’s time to move on. Never focus your attentions too heavily on one girl. Girls will pick up on this, and push you away. Always be confident and try to have at least 2 or 3 options for dates. Chin up, there are many more “perfect” girls out there.

Right, now back to confidence. “Men are attractive when they are confident” said one friend. Another friend told me, “ooh a confident man makes me go weak at the knees”. So I pressed them further. It seems like a confident man is one who carries with him a self-assuredness that is most definitely not arrogance. It is where a man is sure of himself, and knows his abilities, knows what he’s about and what he can do and perhaps even what he cannot do. But he doesn’t fail to try – in fact, he doesn’t fail. A confident man is in total control of his destiny, his future, his career, his time. And to many women that is very attractive.

Fashion: You know the feeling – you’ve just bought a new suit for a party, or even for work, or you’ve got a new Panarei watch and you strut down the road wishing everyone could see you, holding your head high and feeling on top of the world. That is what some call Retail Therapy. This is where a man can in fact improve on their outlook and start exuding the confidence I always talk about, by buying nicer things. Now although you might say – “Why do I have to do this to get a girl” – I am here to tell you that you don’t. You do NOT have to do these things if you area already a super confidence man, or if you look like Brad Pitt. For most of us, like I used to be, this was one of the first steps in making sure I made a good First Impression. Girls like men that dress well. Yes, its important not to have holes in your shoes, Yes it’s important that you don’t smell. These things, no matter how smooth you are, won’t land you with the hot girl, unless of course you are camping in the middle of no-where and you all look like that! So make sure your shoes and belt match, that you have a nice splash of cologne or deodorant, and that you are dressed appropriately for the venue. An Armarni suit may make you feel fantastic at work, but you will feel like a bit of a doushbag if you rock up to a beach party wearing your new Rolex watch and suit. So dress APPROPRIATELY.

• Maintain eye contact. Girls do not like it when you are looking down at their breasts. Nor do they like it when your eyes are wandering over the their face – ie: whilst you ponder why their eyebrows are so immaculately groomed. It exudes confidence if you look girls straight in the eyes. Whilst you practice this, try not to stare, because this can make you come across as more of a stalker rather than a potential mate.

• Say the girls name during the conversation. Girls love it when you say their name in sentences – for example: “Oh, I can’t believe you did that, Jessica” is a true heart warming thing. No-one really knows why this is the case, but simply by doing this, girls tend to hold you in higher regard – they feel special.

• Don’t stutter, or stumble when you talk. Make sure you know what you are about to say before saying it – there is no point in answering quickly if your content is poor. On the other hand, even those with nothing to say, can come across confident if they seem sure when they are speaking.

• Hold your chin up slightly and your shoulders square – this doesn’t mean puffing out your chest and throwing your hose into the air. But if you concentrate of maintaining that posture during your first meetings with people, then you won’t come across as shy or depressed. Hunched shoulders and a drooping head are sure signs that you are not confident meeting the person. Think of how you would speak to a child. You never curl up when you speak to a child.

• Shaking hands is important even for girl-guy first impressions. We probably all know that a limp handshake can leave a poor first impression on a potential colleague or when first meeting your friends friend at the bar, and similarly, this is the case for women. Don’t crush her hand, but make sure she knows you are there. There is no point in having a soft handshake. Remember, girls get flung around dance floors – you won’t injure her unless you are actually trying to.

Traits of a Bad Boy:

So this may confuse you greatly. And I am not surprised. From the things we may read in newpapers and magazines, it seems like women are always longing for that lovely man who will bring them hot cocoa in winter, and give them hourly foot rubs. To confuse matters even more, men, in general, are told that we need to be a hero and a tough guy. And also, in the modern world, it is becoming more and more “important” to be that SNAG (Sensitive New Aged Guy). Whilst we are struggling with this, the bad guy down the road is having is way with the girls of our dreams. Life, and love , my friends, can seem brutally unfair. Perhaps we need to delve into this phenomenon a bit closer.

Curiousity and interet. People that do bad things are generally interesting. No matter what we think, the news and tabloid style magazines are riddled with bad acts. We LOVE to read about them and know what bad things people are doing. Its just human nature – just pick up a magazine. No-one is writing about Angelina Jolie giving her money to charity – they talk about what a bad parent she is, or the fact that Bill Gates will one day donate 99% of his wealth to charity when he dies – similarly, bad guys are interesting – and they do interesting things. They have moved away from the traditional good boy attitute and developed their own “code of conduct”. They do whatever they want. They go wherever they want. They answer to no one. They are, in other words…fascinating. Do what everyone wants you to do (ie: becoming a doormat) and people will place you in that pigeon hole. Like in top gun, Maverick is interesting – he is a cocky, funny, slightly rude arrogant individual - straight up guys are not. Now before you go and start throwing chairs around in your local macdonalds, keep reading.

This type of guy projects utmost  confidence and self assuredness. They are aware of their surroundings and what kind of person they want to project themselves to be. (See confidence in dating). What about Kramer from Seinfeld? He’s the type of Odd Bad Guy I’m talking about. Yes he is fiction, but this still applies.

Bad guys are also a challenge and as much as we love a challenge, females also find bad guys challenging. You might find that women might love a challenge even more than us! If something is challenging, the end results must surely be worthwhile, right? Anything easy or simple just isn’t worth doing, now is it? Women who go after the bad guy are looking for the rainbow at the end of the storm. Some are delusional and they think they will change the guy (This will never happen). In any case, they will go to great efforts to quench their curiosities. And once its all done, they will  never want to let go – difficult things seem more valuable to us. Plus it makes for a rollercoaster ride because the bad guy could walk at any moment. Danger is exhililrating – the greater the danger of losing the bad guy, the more effort they’ll put forth to keep them. I think its fairly clear what we can learn from here.

So if we not dissect these findings and observations what do we find? Confidence, Power, Character, Mavericks, Strength – all characteristics that can make us more appealing to some women. In fact, more women than you think. And this is exactly what we see when we observe the bad guys – so it is not really surprising that they get the hot women. Now please note: I am not saying you should go out and become a bad boy, but I am saying that you should take away from this article some of the tips from what makes a bad boy attractive and put this into play at some stage to see if it works for you. You can never go wrong trying to become more confident. It doesn’t mean to say that we like these guys, and it doesn’t mean it is fair or even a good thing, but raw attraction can be nature’s way. We MUST learn from this.

What I am saying is that we can learn some things from these examples. Your appeal to the opposite sex can be modified and added to with the help of these tips. Your dating arsenal will improve! That’s the way we grow, and how you can benefit from reading these articles. By increasing your confidence levels, getting yourself sorted with respect to career, personal fitness, etc, then you’ll get that bad boy confidence (Note, being a bad boy doesn’t mean being a jerk). And that attitude will boost your success with members of the opposite sex. Like all my articles – you have to know that not all girls will respond to this kind of thing – but in general these rules will apply.

The modern dating game is more complex than it was 50 years ago. No surprises there. Going back to basics, and analyzing what it is that you think potential partners would like and thinking about how can you match yourself to those qualities will improve your chances TEN fold. Changing just a few small things could make the world of difference.

In this day and age, publishers, and writers alike retrieve their content from every day situations. They are able to source funny instances, which both shape the way we think about dating and girls, but also, shape what girls think when we approach them. Think of the humble pick up line, which worked with a high rate of success 50 years ago. Think of how the media has altered the way that our pick-up lines are perceived. So what can we learn from here? There are a few HIGHLY critical lessons to be learnt.

1. How to be a man – Vince is acting like the ALPHA male in this situation. It is obvious, to me anyway, that if he plays his cards right in front of women, he would be highly successful. Other guys will wonder how he is picking up the ladies. The secret is this: When there are 2 men in the room, 1 has to be a dominant male. This comes from all types of influences, from the animal kingdom, to business. The dominant male will ALWAYS get the women (Or at least will start off by having a much better chance). Now please know this: this will not work on 100% of women, but it will DEFINITELY, work on 95% of them.

2. Why be a wuss? Girls don’t like wusses. They like strong men. So whilst Vince looks like he is playing the fool, he is branding himself to the other man as the guy who has the bedroom experience. In a situation where both men are pursuing the same girl, Vince will always win.

Here are some tips to try next time you are trying to woo the same girl: No doubt you’ve heard of the cocky-funny approach, and if you haven’t, stay tuned for this guide on cocky-funny. When you are in this situation, start by saying something to the other male like: “Hey, you’ve got nice shoes…I like to wear thongs”. Then just walk away. Look at the girl as you’re walking away and then disappear for a few minutes. Come back with 2 drinks, and ask the girl to join you on the balcony (or similar). No doubt you’ve left some kind of intriguing impression on her and that is your foot in the door…

peacocking- the flashy clothing and adapted over-the-top behaviour a male exhibits in order to attract female attention.

philemaphobia- fear of kissing or being kissed.

sailors elbow- the act of ending a relationship.

textationship- relationship that is based on SMS and avoids use of face-to-face, online or call-based interaction.

umfriend- a person you have had sexual relations with but not yet defined the relationship. Common introduction to others is “This is my … um… friend!”

I live between Sydney and New York where I used to run a business advising men on the pearls of dating. When he finished school, his girlfriend dumped him when they split to go to separate colleges. Well, his success with women all changed when he left school and hit college. In the past, I used to think that because of his good looks and paper perfect rating, he would breeze through the dating scene, whilst I was stuck to pick up the dregs and attempt to even get a few dates! Needless to say, I never got many dates at school. In college, the girls did not pay Steve much attention. And he was never the type of guy to approach a girl. Over the next 2 years, I studied the art of dating closely. I gained some very valuable insight from a female friend of mine who became my observing companion during parties and the like. And over this period, I started writing. At first, I only noticed a few things, like a few body language hints, or a few phrases or traits in successful men, but then after a while, I became used to picking up on the very reasons why some men are successful with dating attractive women and some are not.

And this leads me back to Steve. He was studying Arts with a major in Roman Literature, when I noticed that at parties, he would sit on the couch talking to his Lacrosse buddies and I would be out talking to the attractive women. Because we went to the same college, it was easy to keep tabs on each other’s successes. His room was just down the hall. As I wrote, I noticed more and more. One day, after discussing a girl I had met at the party the night before, he disclaimed that he had no idea how I was being so successful, especially since he was the one that had all the “luck” with the girls in school.

One day, after I had finished another story of a great night out with a girl, Emily, I saw his shoulders droop. He was depressed! I couldn’t believe it. Here was this guy, who I used to idolize as someone who had it made when it came to the ladies, envying me! I showed him my diary with my scribbles (now articles ) on them, and his eyes widened. Many of my articles stemmed from me observing him. He was, after all, very good looking and had all the attributes I thought were essential to be successful with dating. He spent the next week pouring over my articles, and at the end of the week, he just shook his head and said to me: “Harry, I never knew there was this much to see in dating…” and he then vowed to change the way he approached women.

In the next 3 months, what I saw was remarkable. Steven turned from a Grey Man (Someone who is never noticed) to the life of the college. His “transformation” was amazing. He turned into some kind of dating machine! He was dating 4 nights a week, and the other 3 nights, he was at Lacrosse training! I saw much less of him over that 3 months period then ever before. After 6 months or so, he met a girl called Stephanie, who he ended up engaged, and then married to.

So what is the purpose of this story? Well, even good looking, successful guys need help. Through the 15 or so years that I have been observing these things, I can safely say, that the tips and tricks that I can give you here will help you in the future. I current advise full time on dating matters (I was told that I was something like the inspiration to the movie – Hitch), and spend half my time in New York, and half my time in Sydney, Australia. You can sometimes find me sitting at my favorite coffee shops, with my laptop, answering emails or writing new articles.
